Liam Neeson was presented with the Presidential Distinguished Service Award by President Higgins at Aras an Uachtarain.

The award, which he received for his contribution to Ireland and humanity, highlights the outstanding work by Irish people living overseas across a range of areas.

According to the Press Association, Liam appeared emotional as he accepted the award, and admitted that he has a “genuine fear” of public speaking.

“My fear, and it’s a genuine fear, is public speaking. Everyone says ‘oh, you’re an actor, you should be good at that.’ It’s just not true,” he said.

The Taken star added that he was “honoured” and “very humbled” to accept the award, and promised to continue to “fly the flag for Irish arts” and the charity Unicef, who he is an ambassador for.

Meanwhile, President Higgins described Liam as a “splendid Irish man abroad”.

“We started the awards in 2012 to give recognition to the contribution of Irish people living abroad who have made a distinguished contribution, not just to Ireland, but to humanity in general. And indeed, that is the case in the case of Liam Neeson”, he said.

“I think our reason for having the award is to be able to say the Irish family isn’t defined by national borders or territories.”

The Ballymena native is also set to appear on The Late Late Show tonight, after he attended the gala screening of his new movie The Commuter in Dublin.

It is widely reported that Kylie Jenner checked in to this hospital yesterday.

TMZ stated rumours that Kylie had gone in to labour were not true.

While labour rumours may not be true, multiple other sources have confirmed that Kylie did check in to the hospital.

The couple were first linked together when they were spotted at dinner in LA back in October.

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress was then seen at a Coldplay gig in Argentina the following month. And last month their romance was confirmed, when they were spotted in Paris together.

Gaz Beadle and Emma McVey have announced that they’ve welcomed their first child.

Emma gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London, and naturally the pair are over the moon.

Sharing two snaps of him holding his newborn son on Twitter, Gaz wrote, “WOW what a feeling no words can describe it meet our son he is perfect in every way and healthy weighing 6lbs 2.

“@Emma_mcvey_ is fine and did amazing… I am a dad can’t believe it… I cried I smiled I panicked but I will be there for him no matter what.”

The inaugural awards show, which saw Caitlyn Jenner turn up as Benefit’s special guest, was held at the Mansion House in Dublin’s city centre on Thursday night.

The event was attended by a host of celebrities and social media personalities.

Guests on the night included Barry Keoghan and his girlfriend Shona Guerin, who was wearing a stunning gown from The Ivory Closet.

The inaugural Xposé Benefit Awards celebrates the best in fashion and entertainment in Ireland.

The public were asked to vote for their favourite nominees, and 14 awards were handed out last night in a star studded ceremony.

Among guests was Aoibhin Garrihy, who is expecting her first child, and her sister Ailbhe Garrihy.

Erin McGregor also turned out in style in a pink number, and was joined by her daughter Taylor and her father Tony McGregor – who kept his shades on for the pink carpet.

Reality star Calum Best, son of the late football hero George Best, also jetted in from the UK for the night.

Another star to jet in from the UK was Love Island star Montana Brown, who turned heads in a fiery red number.

Ireland’s Got Talent judge Denise Van Outen also looked sensational in a glitzy navy number.

The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield was full to capacity on Wednesday night for the Irish premiere screening of the Oscar-nominated film The Shape of Water.

Guests on the night included Holly Carpenter,Dillon St Paul, Lisa Cannon and Blathnaid Treacy.

The film tells the story of Elisa who is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore.

Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret – a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank.

As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.
