The red carpet was rolled out at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Thursday evening, for the opening night of the National Theatre’s War Horse.
Following 8 record breaking years in London’s West End and having played in 11 countries around the world to over 7 million people, the National Theatre’s acclaimed play has come to Dublin as part of it’s 10th anniversary tour.
Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness.
At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.
War Horse is an unforgettable theatrical event which takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France.
Michael Morpurgo said: “After a few months rest, out at pasture, Joey, the War Horse and his great team from the National Theatre, are touring the UK & Ireland again, taking their show all over the country, to towns and cities, many of them places War Horse has not been seen before.”

War Horse continues at the theatre until 27 April 2019.
